How Wade’s Restoration Was Born in Williamsburg

We didn’t set out to open a restoration branch in Williamsburg because the market looked good on paper. We opened it because people here kept telling us the same story, and after a while, you can’t unhear it.

A homeowner on Grand Street wakes to water sheeting down the stairwell from a burst supply line. She calls the first name that comes up. The phone rings somewhere far away. A voice promises a crew “as soon as possible.” Hours pass. The water keeps moving. What was a wet ceiling is now a soaked subfloor, a stained wall, the first musty hint of what will become a mold problem if it sits another day. When someone finally arrives, the quote comes in high and vague, with line items that don’t match what she can see with her own eyes.

We’ve met that homeowner too many times, in different houses, on different blocks, from East Williamsburg to the waterfront. Williamsburg deserved better than that. So when the chance came to bring Wade’s Restoration here, it wasn’t a business decision so much as a correction. The brand already existed, built on a simple way of working: answer the phone, get moving immediately, photograph everything before touching it, document every day, and stand behind the work. Our job was to bring that here and staff it with people who actually know this neighborhood, its old plumbing, its converted industrial buildings, its prewar frame houses that hide water in ways newer construction doesn’t.

That’s how a branch becomes a neighbor.

Wade Ferris’s Personal Connection to the Damage Restoration Trade

Wade Ferris got into this work the way a lot of people get into the work they end up doing for good: he showed up to help, and then he stayed. Long before he founded the company in 2007 and long before the Williamsburg branch opened, he was the tradesman who got called when the first moisture readings looked wrong and someone needed to explain, honestly, what it would take to fix it and what it would cost if they didn’t.

He remembers what a flooded basement smelled like the first time he walked down into one. Standing water that had gone untended, the air heavy and closed, the drywall already spongy under his knuckles. He remembers the homeowner standing at the top of the stairs, not the person who made the decisions, but the person who was going to have to live with them. There’s a sound a house makes when it’s drying properly, a low mechanical hum of air movers and dehumidifiers, and there’s a difference between a floor that’s dry at the surface and one that’s actually drying through. He learned to read both. The work became about telling people the truth they needed to hear at the worst moment of their week and then making that truth manageable.

What keeps him in it isn’t the equipment or the process. It’s the phone call two weeks after a job wraps, the one that starts, “You’re not going to believe this, but…” Sometimes it’s a small thing, a musty smell they thought they’d live with forever and now it’s gone. Sometimes it’s a bigger thing, an insurance adjuster who said a floor couldn’t be saved and it could. That’s what gets him up in the morning. If he weren’t doing this, he’d probably be restoring old houses for no one but himself, which he half does anyway. The difference is that doing it for other people means they get to stay home.

Meet Wade Ferris - The Person Behind Every Job

Wade Ferris is the owner and founder of Wade’s Restoration. He has spent his entire career in property restoration and repair, more than a decade of it as a working tradesman before the company took shape, and every year since refining how a restoration job should be handled from the first call to the final walkthrough. He is trained in the disciplines that matter in this trade, water extraction and drying, fire and smoke recovery, mold remediation, and the structural carpentry that often follows. He holds the certifications the industry recognizes and the licenses New York requires, and he would rather show you a moisture reading than tell you a job is done.

What makes him different from a technician working a corporate route is simple: his name is on the truck. He lives close enough to see the neighborhoods he works in and runs into the people he has helped. On his own time, you’ll find him working on his place, the kind of ongoing restoration project that never quite ends, because it keeps his eye sharp for what our crews handle every week. He answers his phone himself. He photographs everything before touching anything. And he won’t charge you for a problem he can fix without sending anybody out.

Our Promise to Williamsburg Homeowners

Every job gets a written scope before the work starts. Not a verbal estimate, not a ballpark. A line-by-line plan you can read, question and approve. If the scope changes because we found something behind the wall, we stop, we show you, and we agree on the new plan before going further. That policy exists because one of the worst moments in this trade is watching a homeowner’s face as a surprise invoice appears.

We use quality materials and proper equipment, and we take the time to dry things out rather than guessing. We stand behind every job with a ninety day warranty in writing on water, fire and mold restoration, and one phone call brings Wade back. We don’t do that because it’s easy. We do it because in a neighborhood like Williamsburg, word travels block by block, and the only reputation worth having is the one that gets you invited back.

Our Credentials

  • State-licensed. Every professional working under the Wade’s Restoration name in Williamsburg is required to hold the license New York requires for the work they perform. No exceptions.
  • Insured and bonded. Our work carries insurance and bond coverage. If something goes wrong on your property, you’re protected, and we’ll say so in writing before the first tool comes out.
  • Certified by the industry. Our team includes professionals trained to the standards of recognized restoration organizations, including IICRC, and we follow their protocols for water, fire and mold work.
  • Years of local experience. Wade Ferris built this company on more than a decade of hands-on restoration work, and the Williamsburg branch carries that same depth of experience on every job.
  • A reputation you can verify. Ask around the neighborhood. The best assurance we can offer isn’t a number on a website, it’s a homeowner down the block who will tell you what it was like to work with us.

Licensing matters because it means the person in your home has met a legal standard of competence. Insurance matters because your home is your biggest asset and accidents can happen even on careful jobs. Experience matters because water moves in ways no manual can fully predict, and recognizing the difference between a drying floor and a ruined one can mean thousands of dollars, either saved or wasted.

Rooted in Williamsburg

We work in Williamsburg, and we live here, and the two things are not separate. Wade Ferris runs into clients at the grocery store, at the hardware store, on the walk down Bedford Avenue. He sees the same faces at neighborhood meetings and local shops, and that proximity is the whole point. You don’t cut corners when the person whose home you’re working in is someone you’ll see again on Saturday. That’s the oldest accountability mechanism there is, and it’s the one we trust.
